Herniated Disc

A herniated disc can cause discomfort, dysfunction, pain and/or numbness not only in the back or spine region but in other areas of the body. There are multiple discs located in the spine and, when one is herniated, slipped or ruptured, it is often in the lower back and commonly the main cause of back pain and leg pain. Left untreated, the pinched nerve can cause numbness, moderate pain, or severe pain. Often, therapy including stretching, can help relieve the pressure on the disc thereby relieving the symptoms. NOTE: herniated disc differs from those below as it is considered “non-contained,” meaning it has ruptured outside of the disc, leaking into the spinal canal.
