Bulging Disc

There are differences between a bulging disc and a herniated disc. A bulging disc is considered “contained,” mainly because it has not broken out into the spinal canal, or has not ruptured outside of the disc itself. Instead it appears as more of a lump or bulge that is slightly protruding into the spinal canal. If untreated, a bulging disc can turn into a herniated disc and, if that bump tears open, the nucleus of the disc can leak into the spinal canal. Early assessment of back discomfort to severe pain is very important.
